The PALS Provider course is a course for participants that have never completed PALS certification or have an expired PALS certification. The participant must have a CURRENT BLS certification from the American Heart Association. BLS Certification cannot be expired. Your current BLS card must be verified by the CMH AHA Training Center prior to class. If your BLS Certification was obtained from a location other than Children's Mercy Hospital, then that card must be faxed to 816-234-9263 with completion of the online registration.
The Pediatric Advanced Life Support Program (PALS) was created in cooperation with the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics to assist the health care provider to recognize early signs of pedaitric and infant distress and intervene to prevent respiratory and cardiopulmonary arrest. In addition, the course is designed to enhance cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize critically ill infants and children.
THE PALS course includes various types of learning formats which include videos, skill stations, interactive sessions and self-study. The skill stations and interactive scenario teaching stations utilize small-group personalized learning settings.
Target Population: The PALS course is intended for healthcare providers with medical care responsitbilties for infants and children. The provider should provide critical care responsiblities on a routine basis to infants and children. This includes pediatricians, family practice physicians, pediatric specialists, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, nurses in critial care areas such as ED, ICU & transport, paramedics and respiratory therapists.
The Provider class session is two days: Day one 0700-1730 and Day Two 0730-1730.
PALS Standards are set by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. All participants who successfully pass the completion criteria for the course will be issued a PALS provider card, affirming completion of the course. PALS training must be updated every 2 years.
